Fluid relationship, but anaesthetized intensity

successful life, intensity on standby, numbing bond, emotional relationship and choices.

We have a solid standing in life, real freedom, cities crossed, projects accomplished, dreams asleep, a standard of living that tells the tale. From the outside, everything is in place. Inside, another truth whispers: life works, emotions remain temperate.

Everything is fine, nothing is collapsing. Nothing is catching fire either.

1. A "correct" and fluid relationship

After 35, 40, 50 years, we are no longer in the same scenarios as at 25. We know how to handle a busy day, a team, a business, a plane, a move, a complex schedule.
We also know how to manage a relationship: fluid communication, complicity, intelligence, respect. Everything is “fine”.

And that's precisely where the tension begins: the relationship holds, But something within us is no longer moving forward:
– The conversations remain interesting, but often the same, and rarely passionate.
– The body responds, but it lacks that tremor that makes you feel alive.
– Projects undertaken by two people align, without creating this impression of “higher, stronger, bigger”.

We find ourselves thinking: “I'm with someone nice. Why do I find it too quiet?

Hidden fear reflects a form of vertigo: What if the rest of my life looked exactly like that, only a little flatter, a little too sweet, a little more dreary?

2. Why we let ourselves be lulled

None of this happens all at once. We reduce the intensity through small, sensible decisions:
– we choose “safe” profiles, to avoid the chaos for which we have already paid dearly; ;
– we smooth over what we share, to avoid serious conflicts; ;
– we fit the relationship into the gaps: tolerable evenings, available weekends, periods between two sprints.

Gradually, the bond loses its sharpness, becoming a reassuring comfort after weeks of sufficient activity. Most people are content with this. Those at your level, however, feel the dissonance: professional life continues to demand everything, while emotional life is content with a bare minimum.

This discrepancy creates a particular unease: one is neither unhappy nor fully alive. While comfort makes relationships more secure, it can also numb them.

3. An easy link to simplify everyday life

Yet we may already have been through relationship turmoil: irresistible personalities who hurt us, or betrayals that cracked trust, periods when intensity spilled over into everything: work, sleep, health, dignity.

So, a very discreet internal agreement is reached: Never again chaos. Better a reduced intensity, but under control.

The problem is that this pact cuts us off from the same movement that helped create our current life: the ability to take risks, to invest, to let ourselves be crossed, to make clear-cut choices.

We protect life... by diminishing what gives it relief. Inwardly, a whisper comes back: "Am I ready to live at this volume until the end, just because everything here fits?"

4. Raise the level

Regaining intensity begins by recognizing this whisper and questioning it:

In this concrete link :

  • Do I want to shake him/her up and make him/her react? I feel like I expect more in a relationship, but I seem to be the only one?
  • Am I staying for comfort? Am I staying for him/her? Do I sometimes look at others who attract me? Am I continuing with him/her because we built everything together and I don't want to destroy it all?
  • Is my body waking up, or numbing itself?

  • Does my creativity, my enthusiasm, my sense of humour, take off again... or does it go into a long dormant state?

In my life in general:

  • Does this relationship make me want to dare more?

  • Do I talk about what's going through my mind, or do I simplify things so as not to "tire out" the other person?

  • Do I still recognize myself in the person I'm becoming here?

The intensity returns as soon as we accept to reopen those areas. Sometimes, the existing relationship can deepen if both parties address these issues. Sometimes, these issues simply pave the way for a clear-headed exit.

5. Ultimate criterion

It's brutally simple: "Who am I becoming in this relationship?"“
An intense relationship doesn't have to be under constant tension; it's a structure where living things circulate : desires, anger, doubts, projections, longings, with a level of presence to match.

The danger isn't loneliness. The danger is a life with "someone," where you slowly die inside while continuing to smile as if it were normal.

Conclusion

We know the cost of a fully controlled life: it's comfortable, very presentable, and deeply boring.

If you feel that everything is in place, but that the intensity still lives underground, reserve a time slot:
