Lucid or intransigent? The emotional dilemma of the demanding

Demanding. The word seems almost out of place when it comes to love.
We can succeed at everything, manage everything, filter everything — except the link.
So we ask ourselves: am I aiming too high?
Or has the world become accustomed to loves that are too base?
This doubt is not about arrogance, it's about refined solitude.

But after meeting only half-promises, we start to doubt: are we being too demanding?

Or is it the world, other people, encounters, that have become impoverished? This question speaks volumes about our solitude. And about our lucidity.

1. A demanding life line

The requirement is not a barrier or a whim, it's a filter that protects what matters, like a form of inner hygiene.

We're not asking for someone perfect.
We want an embodied connection: a gaze that holds, a presence that resonates.
Not a trophy or a distraction: an equal and a depth.

Those who “ask for too much” are often those who have already given everything.
And what they expect is not a privilege, but reciprocity.

Demandingness is not about whims, it is about inner clarity.
From what we have learned to no longer sacrifice in order to be loved.

When you've worked on yourself, when you've crossed your shadows, when you're no longer looking to fill a void but to build a real bond, then you can no longer be satisfied with little.

We don't want a decorative partner: we want an ally, a clear-sighted perspective, a heart that moves forward with courage.
Someone we admire, and who uplifts us, a "resonance to embody".

2. The problem isn't the requirement, it's the scarcity of alignment.

What isolates us is not being demanding. Unfortunately, we are sometimes misunderstood: those who have never had to build their lives on their own call it “being difficult”.
They do not see the effort, the lucidity, the verticality that it takes to remain aligned in a confusing emotional world.
We live in a world that values seduction, surface, the instantaneous… and fears sincere intensity: we want substance, but the era focuses on flow.

The problem is not having high standards.
The problem is that few people have worked to embody them themselves.

Then the gap widens, through scarcity, and we find ourselves faced with a void. That of a reality where relational quality becomes the exception. Because we want answers, when most of us are just trying to be available.

It's not you who's setting the bar too high, it's the world that has settled for "good enough".
So yes, we feel alone, but that's NOT A MISTAKE, it's a logical consequence.

3. Measuring up to your own standards

Demands become toxic when they serve as a wall: when we refuse all surprise, all friction, all humanity.

What we ask of others, we must first live within ourselves: to be able to open up, to remain, to speak the truth. Refuse unnecessary compromise, without excluding the other's complexity.

It's not a question of lowering our standards, it's a question of not locking ourselves into them.

It's not enough to be demanding: you have to make it lively, accessible and inspiring. Otherwise, it becomes cold and austere.

A lived-in demand is an offering.
A rigid requirement is a wall.

Being demanding does not preclude being open-minded.
And it is this posture that transforms the filter into magnetism.

Conclusion

The high standards are not the problem: They are our internal compass and they are invaluable.
But we still need to know when it guides us… and when it isolates us.

Meeting someone who's up to the task often starts with asking yourself:
Are we still attainable of what we hope for?

if YES, then there's no need to apologize for this lucidity; it remains to be embodied.

The right person won't necessarily be the one who offers you everything.
It will be the one who sees you completely… and who stays.
