role and function.
As women, we're conditioned to take on every role: a reliable professional, a strategic partner, a confidante, an advisor, a lover, a family pillar, a soul sister, a strong shoulder.
In many of our encounters, we've often been "the right person" at the right time for everyone but ourselves.
At one point, a question arises, calm and sharp: “Who chooses me for who I truly am, and not just for what I provide? ?”
1. To be useful, yes. To be reduced to usefulness, no.
Society loves efficient women. Women who organize, manage, plan, check in and support when the going gets tough. This skill comes at a price: we're beginning to be seen as a resource. We are solicited, consulted and relied upon.
In business, this translates to women saving projects.
In the private sector, those that stabilize everyone.
In the middle, a fine fatigue sets in: brilliant but functional, appreciated but rarely really chosen.
Being chosen for who you are in your entirety, for your "inner light," is something other than being valued for your strength. It's being recognized as a center, not as infrastructure.
2. Light: what we bring when we stop performing
A brilliant woman radiates differently as soon as the expectation of performance decreases. When she is no longer busy proving, justifying, or fixing things, she lets something else shine through:
– a sharper sense of humor,
– a vulnerability without complaint,
– an intuitive intelligence that grasps the underlying issues in situations,
– a sensuality that is not staged, but inhabits every gesture.
This light has nothing to do with a role. It exists in a dinner, in a glance exchanged at the edge of a counter, in a car journey.
A man who can see this isn't looking for a "good life partner" in the logistical sense. He's looking for a woman whose light changes the way he lives.
And it starts with the obvious: he really looks at her.
3. Men who choose a role, not a woman
We've all encountered this type of man:
– the one who is looking for a mother for his future children,
– someone looking for a personal assistant,
– the one who is looking for a trophy,
– the one who seeks a gentle presence to soften his own harshness.
There's nothing "bad" about them. They're looking for a role to fill. A brilliant woman who accepts this contract signs an implicit pact: she agrees to reduce her light to fit into the frame. It works for a while. Until the day when her desire to be seen in its entirety becomes stronger than comfort.
Being chosen for one's light implies another requirement: accepting to no longer fit into these roles, even when they are reassuring, even when they offer a form of security.
4. Light as a criterion for reciprocal choice
The real turning point occurs when we reverse the question; it is no longer simply a matter of asking: “Is this man choosing me for who I truly am?”It’s also about looking at:“What part of him lights up in my presence? Does he straighten up? Does his gaze gain depth? Does his breathing expand or contract when I take my place?”
Light can be recognized by what it triggers: in him, in us. A man who feels threatened by our power will seek to contain it, dilute it, distract it. A man who feels nourished by our light will seek, on the contrary, to protect it, to enlarge it, to offer it a stage worthy of what it bears.
Our role then becomes very simple: observe our posture when we stop shrinking.
5. Allowing ourselves a relationship where our light remains free
Being chosen for one's light requires a discreet but radical decision:
– to refuse relationships where one primarily serves as a stabilizing agent,
– to refuse those where one becomes a showcase,
– to refuse those where our intelligence is inconvenient.
Loyalty to the woman we've become, to the years of effort, loneliness, adjustments and rebuilding, to that part of us that knows exactly what kind of bond we want and deserve.
From then on, the selection process changes: fewer candidates, more accuracy. A man capable of choosing a Woman for her light accepts that she also illuminates his dark areas. He accepts the mirror, the depth, the density.
And a woman who allows herself this type of connection stops wondering if she is “too much” or “not enough”.
She acknowledges that her light is neither a problem nor a luxury, but the heart of her attraction.
